Bodywork/AIS - Active Isolated Stretching
Active Isolated Stretching (AIS) is a flexibility system that involves working one
muscle at a time. By actively contracting muscles opposite of the targeted
muscle, Active Isolated Stretching (AIS) utilizes precise movements to isolate a
specific area to be stretched. It is also effective at reducing pain in the human
body caused by posture, injury, and inactivity.
AIS transports oxygen to sore and tired muscles, removing toxins and
speeding up recovery. Muscles shorten, stiffen, or become tense from work,
training, misuse, poor posture, gravity, and stress. Lack of flexibility has been
shown to be the source of countless sports injuries and health problems, and
is linked to back pain, stress, even osteoarthritis. This technique allows the
body to repair itself and prepare for daily activity.
Origins:
Aaron Mattes, a physiotherapist and physical therapist, created this technique
based on more than 40 years of research and practice. At his clinic in Florida,
Aaron works with amateur and professional athletes, as well as individuals
with serious musculoskeletal disorders.
Evolution offers both AIS classes and private training sessions. You can
